Illuminate the Stage through Smart Fiber Artistry

Illuminating the Dialogue Between Art and Technology

Where the spirit of Chinese ink painting meets intelligent textiles, illuminating a new form of interactive artistry

2025

This cross-disciplinary collaboration brings together GERI Limited and renowned Hong Kong artist Dr. Kan Tai-Keung, along with his lifestyle brand Zaixin 在心, to merge advanced textile innovation with the enduring essence of Chinese visual culture. The project, Zaixin x GERI — Innovative Artistry, unveils the world’s first illuminative interactive knit bag collection, redefining the intersection of design, technology, and art.

The collaboration was presented at two major exhibitions: Chinese Spirit: Kan Tai-Keung’s 60 Years of Creativity, held at the China Design Museum in Hangzhou from June 21 to September 13, 2025, and DesignInspire 2025 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from December 3 to 6, 2025.

Conceived as a creative dialogue between disciplines, Zaixin x GERI reflects the meeting of Dr. Kan’s meditative ink philosophy and the expressive potential of intelligent textiles. Each knit bag is not only constructed but composed, its narrative emerging through dynamic illumination that reinterprets the rhythm and balance of brushwork in luminous form. The collection invites audience to move beyond observation to participation. The fluid drape of the intelligent textile follows the original brushstrokes, while its illumination can be customised via mobile application, transforming the bag into a living canvas that accompanies daily life.

Comprising five distinctive designs—Caprice, Mind, Chanting, Melody, and Constant—the collection traces Dr. Kan’s creative philosophy of “Learning from Nature” and “Learning through Reflections.” Each illuminative textile is meticulously hand-finished, preserving the subtle imprint of the artisan’s hand and embodying the ongoing dialogue between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary innovation.

Through this exchange between ink and light, Dr. Kan’s artistic vision—embodied in Zaixin—finds renewed expression. At the same time, GERI’s patented photonic fiber and interactive knit technology discover a new canvas for creative experimentation. This synthesis transcends conventional boundaries between art and technology, establishing a new medium for participatory and responsive design.
